Standardized Testing
Standardized testing is only one component of a student’s college application. SAT scores alone will not cause a student to be admitted or denied. In fact, there are a growing number of colleges that do not require standardized test scores at all. These schools are considered “test optional”. They will consider your scores if you submit them, but they do not require them. A list of these schools can be found at http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional . There are caveats to some of these schools’ policies and you should confirm their testing policies on your own to avoid miscommunication.
PSAT - The PSAT is offered at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School. All sophomores and juniors are automatically registered for the test which will be administered in the high school building on October 15th, 2010 at 9:00am.
SAT Test - Students register online with the College Board. Test dates and registration deadlines are available online, as well. While Mystic Valley is not a testing site, all test dates have sites at Malden High School and some at Malden Catholic.
SAT Subject Tests – Some very selective colleges and scholarship programs require two or more SAT Subject Test scores. Check with each college to learn their policies. You should take the subject tests soon after you study the subject in school so it’s still fresh in your mind.
SAT Dates: You must register well before each test date. See the College Board website for deadlines. The College Counseling office recommends preparing for and taking the May test as a junior.
