Extracurricular Activities
Mystic Valley recognizes the importance of extracurricular activities to the development of its students. The school offers many different programs for the students to enjoy.
After-School Performing Music Program
Students from the fourth grade through the high school participate in this very popular program. Lessons are given throughout the year. Participants in the program perform in concerts for the entire Mystic Valley community in December and June.
Art Club
Mystic Valley students have an opportunity to show off their creative side by participating in the art club. The high school club meets on Thursdays after school under the direction of Art Teacher, Courtney Sturgeon. In the K-8 school, the students display their talents at the annual Art Fair in April.
Builders Club
The "Junior Key Club" is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and is dedicated to Service to Home, School and Community. The purpose of the club is to raise money for charities, help the community and build team spirit within our school. For more information go to: www.buildersclub.org .
Chess Club

Chorus
The students in the Mystic Valley school chorus perform throughout the area for parents, at civic events, senior citizen residences, and as entertainment for nursing home residents.
Drama Club
The drama club has a very busy year scheduled for the young actors. In November the lower school students put on their annual show. This year they presented an adaptation of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Both the high school and the lower school will put on shows in the spring.
Foreign Study
Each year Mystic Valley students have the opportunity to spend a week abroad. This year's trip to Italy was a thoroughly enjoyable and educationally enriching experience. Many members of the senior class were able to go on the trip and came away with memories that will last their entire lives.
Gardening Club
Headed by science teacher, Cathie Keane, the gardening club has taken on several projects around the area including maintainence of the Councillor Eilleen Fay Memorial Community Garden located on Salem Street just a couple of blocks from the lower school.
Key Club
The Key Club is the largest international high school community service program in the world. Members of the Mystic Valley Key Club had an extremely busy year. They volunteered to perform numerous projects around the City of Malden especially graffitti removal. Their work is very much appreciated by the people of Malden.
Latin Club
“Certamen” is Latin for competition, and it is the name for a Latin trivia game played by schools across the country. There are three levels of questions asked: Novice (Freshmen), Intermediate (Sophomore Latin II students), and Upper Level (Latin III and IV level students). Roxbury Latin School recently hosted a Certamen Competition with a number of teams competing from schools like BC High, Boston Latin School (BLS), Boston Latin Academy (BLA), et al.
Mystic Valley’s team competed at the Intermediate Level. Team members were undaunted by the fact this was the first time Mystic Valley competed in Certamen, while all of the other schools have been competing for decades. Mystic Valley correctly answered the first two questions asked, taking the lead right out of the gate. They held onto the lead throughout the first half of the competition. Unfortunately, Latin Academy kept inching closer and took the lead the second half. Nonetheless it was a very good first outing for the club.
Math Club
The Math Club is made up of a group of dedicated math students who meet bi-weekly at the high school starting in October. The meetings are held by Mr. Zajac in order to prepare the club members for competitions. The club participates in six New England Math League competitions each year as well as the American Math Competition held annually in the spring and sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. All are welcome to come to the club's meetings.
National Honor Society
Started in 1921, the National Honor Society is an organization whose intent is to recognize high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service and character. The school was proud to induct a very impressive group of new members into this prestigious organization in 2010. The recognized students wonderfully represent the ideals that Mystic Valley fosters in all of its students.

School Newspaper
The student run Magna Charter is a monthly newspaper that reports on events around the school including sports, various Mystic Valley activities, movie reviews and also features interviews with faculty members and articles submitted by Mystic Valley students. The newspaper is moderated by Mr. Brown and Ms. Nair.
Science Club
The Science Fairs are one of the largest and most anticipated annual events at Mystic Valley. Students in grades K-6 join in teams and perform science experiments. They then share their results with their fellow students and parents at school wide showings in February and March.
Spanish Mentoring
High school students with good grades and an interest in Spanish act as tutors for students in the lower grades who need help with homework. The tutors also go over the basics of the language with the students.
Yearbook
Once again the students putting together the yearbook for the class of 2010 did a wonderful job chronicaling their time at Mystic Valley and providing a snapshot of our world that they can look back on in years to come.
